| Australia will import Indian mangoes from 2009 after exporters fulfilled certain quarantine conditions, the Australian Acting High Commissioner, Mr David Holly, announced here.
Mr Holly disclosed that Australia’s ‘Final Import Risk Analysis Report for Fresh Mango Fruit’ had recommended the import of mangoes.
"This is the final step in Australia’s import risk analysis process and paves the way for India to start exporting mangoes during its next export season in 2009", Mr Holly explained.
Earlier, the US had also announced lifting of the ban on Indian mangoes.
The Union government will now consult Australia to develop a detailed operational plan for mango export. The plan will address Australia’s quarantine requirements, as well as take into account the post-harvest practices, including irradiation treatment, that are to be applied to the king of fruit |
