| IndiaLinx, the container train service being run by India Infrastructure and Logistics, has begun services to Mundra Port with the maiden run being flagged off from the inland container depot (ICD) at Loni here recently.
India infrastructure is a joint venture between Singapore-based APL and India’s HIPE.
This will be a weekly service, the transit time being 60 hours in each direction, a company statement explained.
Launched in May last year, IndiaLinx has been offering services, six per week, between Loni and Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP).
The cargo inducement, particularly exports, between Northern India and Mundra was encouraging, the statement said.
As part of its diversification plan, IndiaLinx will also shortly launch additional services from the ACTL terminal near Faridabad.
Two more rakes, one in September and the other in October, are proposed to be acquired bringing the total number of rakes to nine.
The ACTL terminal, a container freight station (CFS) being upgraded into a railway terminal by a private operator, is expected to be ready for operation by this month-end.
During June-December 2007, the traffic throughput of IndiaLinx service was around 12,000 TEUs, which is expected to increase four-fold this year.
Between January and July, the cargo throughput exceeded 27,000 TEUs. |
