Manufactured goods export dip rattles Fieo |

| MR Ganesh Kumar Gupta, President of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (Fieo), expressed concern over the decline in the share of exports of manufactured items from 67 per cent to 64 per cent in 2007-08.
Mr Gupta suggested that steps should be taken for the immediate reversal of the decline so that employment generation was not affected.
Export figures of the last three months, covering textiles and apparels, handloom, handicrafts, leather, marine products, etc., had shown a slowdown in this traditional sector.
The export sector would face a major challenge due to the high volatility in exchange rates and a slowdown in the US and the EU economies, which cater to close to 35 per cent of the total exports, he feared. |
