The Union government is considering extension of the ban on the export of maize after October. It is also planning to withdraw the export benefits on oilmeals, it is learnt.
Already, exports of non-basmati rice have been banned and the import duty on crude edible oils scrapped to control the raging inflation.
Sources said that the government was gearing up to increase the availability of essential commodities during the festival season and may consider easing these tight norms on maize, rice, edible oils and wheat only after the festivals end.
