  Gujarat waives VAT on imported sugar

The Gujarat government has decided to exempt imported sugar from value-added tax (VAT) for a year, an official said here. The state government used to charge four per cent VAT on the sweetener. The decision was taken keeping in mind the prevailing conditions when there is scarcity of the commodity due to lower production.
