| Cargo volumes handled at the 12 Major Ports have registered an increase of over 1 per cent during April-July 2009-10 over the same period of 2008-09.
Paradip, Tuticorin and Mormugao Ports have registered substantive growth rates of 22.24 per cent, 11.82 per cent and 19.01 per cent, respectively, during the 4 months when compared to the correponding four months of 2008, a Shipping Ministry release said.
At 1,80,094 tonnes, the cargo volumes handled by the Ports during this period is, however, still slightly below the Ministry of Shipping’s (MoS) target of 1,89,610 tonnes, but higher than the throughput handled during the corresponding period of last year, which was 1,78,018 tonnes. |
